According to the Newscientist of September 7, weight loss has a serious downside: it leads to the release of persistent 1 organic pollutants 2 (POPs)， which may have a significant impact on health。

The level of POPs needed to have an adverse 5 affect in humans is unknown, so it should not stop obese 6 people trying to lose weight, said Amanda Sainsbury-Salis at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research in Sydney, Australia。
