NEW YORK, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Wall Street held its strong gain to the last minute of trading on Monday, buoyed 1 by strong earnings 2 from Caterpillar 3 and hopes on a concrete resolution to the European debt woes 4.
The Dow Jones industrial average gained 104.83 points, or 0.89 percent, to close at 11,913.62. Caterpillar, the world's largest maker 5 of construction and mining equipment, soared more than 5 percent to lead the Dow after the company surprised investors 6 on Monday by reporting a 44-percent quarterly earnings increase and record revenue.
