1.按英美的习俗，送礼不但可以表示感激之情，也常用来作为联络感情的一种方法。无论是父子、夫妻、朋友、情侣，彼此都可以借互赠礼物来增进感情，且并不拘泥于任何形式。不少人甚至动手做上一份小小的礼物送给朋友或亲人。
2.接受礼物时，除了向对方道谢外，外国人，尤其是英美人士还习惯当场拆开礼物，并且礼貌地问一句May I open it?礼物拆开后，再大大赞扬一番。
