Former British Prime Minister David Cameron has resigned as a Conservative Member of Parliament two months after he quit as prime minister in the wake of the June Brexit referendum.

Cameron, 49, said he did not want to be a "distraction 1" for new Prime Minister Theresa May.

He said that he thought about the decision long and hard and it isn't really possible to be a proper backbench MP as a former prime minister.
