  A Job Interview Is Not an Interrogation

  If you read many books on job interviews, you'll notice that some feed you lists of interview questions that you should learn answers to. But an interview is not an interrogation; it's a conversation. Thus, I believe the best way to prepare for an interview is to come armed with a multitude of small stories about both your business and personal life.

  Conversation Wins the Job

  Competency-based interviews, as opposed to traditional interviews, have become more common today. In a traditional interview, the interviewer will ask you questions focused on whether you have the skills and knowledge needed to do the job. A competency-based interview goes further by asking you additional questions about your character and personal attributes that can better determine whether you fit their corporate 1 culture. These are called "behavioral competencies."
  相对于传统面试的能力面试在如今越来越普遍。在传统面试中,面试官会将重点考察你是否具有该份工作所要求的技能和知识。而能力面试除此之外还会考察得更深,面试官会询问你的性格、个人能力等,以便更好地判断你是否能够融入他们的公司文化。这些称为“行为能力”。
  A competency-based interviewer will spend about half the interview on your job skills, and about half on your behavioralcompetencies. He or she will be looking for evidence of how you have acted in real situations in the past. So having your stories ready to go, and discussing them during a conversation between two equals, plays very well for this type of interview.
  一次能力面试会花一半的时间在你的工作技能的考察上,而另一半的时间则用来考察你的行为能力。面试官会要求你提供证据证明在过去的具体情况中的一些表现。所以提前准备好你的故事,然后在面试的中间段(工作技能考察和行为能力考察的中间)和他们谈论,这样你就能够在一次行为面试中表现优良了。

  An employer wants to find out:

  1) Are you an asset orliability? In other words, will you either make money or save money for the company?
