The New York Post reported that America’s Federal Trade Commission was planning to block the merger 1 of Staples 2 and Office Depot 3, the country’s only two national office-supplies chains. The deal, worth $6.3 billion, was announced in February; the antitrust regulator’s decision is due by December 8th. The FTC thwarted 4 a previous merger plan of the two in 1997.
