HAVANA, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Cuba on Thursday condemned 1 the attempts by some foreign countries to destabilize and overthrow 2 the governments of Venezuela and Ukraine.
Speaking at a press conference, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez expressed his country's "invariable and total solidarity 3" with Venezuela and its constitutional president, Nicolas Maduro.
The minister also denounced foreign attempts of interference in Venezuela, particularly a recent resolution passed by U.S. Congress that backs a proposal by Panama to ask the Organization of American States (OAS) to mediate 4 the Venezuelan crisis.
Following Panama's call for an OAS meeting on the Venezuelan situation, Maduro on Wednesday announced his decision to break diplomatic and trade ties with Panama, saying the proposal amounted to an open conspiracy 5 of intervention 6.
Meanwhile, Rodriguez also condemned what he called "the hypocrisy 7, the double standards and the aggression 8" of Washington and NATO over the ouster of the pro-Russian government in Ukraine.
"We cannot accept the violent overthrow of a constitutional government, at the cost of dozens of deaths and injuries, through the intervention of the United States and several NATO allies," said Rodriguez.
The attempt to extend NATO's reach to Russia's borders is a flagrant violation 9 of international law and the UN Charter and a threat to peace, security and global stability, he said.
He stressed that the United States and its allies would be held responsible for the consequences of its increasingly aggressive military doctrine 10 beyond North Atlantic.
