US President Donald Trump 1 signed a new executive order last Monday that bans immigration from six Muslim-majority countries, excluding Iraq from the list of January's previous ban.

Iraq was taken off the banned list because the Iraqi government has imposed new vetting 2 procedures, such as heightened visa screening and data sharing, and because of its work with the US in countering Islamic State militants 3, a senior White House official said.

Nationals of the six countries who are legal US permanent residents or have valid 4 visas will be permitted to enter the US, including some 60,000 people whose visas were revoked 5 under the previous order.

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said he expected the revised order to have the same uphill battle in the courts as the original version.
