The Chinese government is accusing Japan of falsely saying Chinese warships 1 targeted fire-control radars 2 at their vessels 3 in the East China Sea.
Foreign Ministry 4 Spokesperson Hua Chunying says moves like these are unhelpful.
"The Japanese side has been intentionally 5 distorting the facts and hyping false information about China. It has also been instigating 6 conflicts between the two countries and tarnishing 7 China's image. This is irresponsible and won't help to solve the problems."
This comes after Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe told his parliament it was hard to predict the intention behind the fire-control radars incident.
The Japanese media has also published photos showing Chinese patrol ship stalling Japanese fishing ships.
Meanwhile, Chinese military says it has "adequate" evidence of Japanese warships and airplanes conducting close-range surveillance of the Chinese navy.
Geng Yansheng, spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defense 8 said China will now consider the relevant measures.
He also said the Japanese surveillance has been carried out for a long time, which harms the security of the Chinese navy and aggravates 9 current Sino-Japanese relations.
