The Chinese government is welcoming Iran's nuclear weapon ban decree issued by Iran's supreme 1 leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Chinese Foreign Ministry 2 Spokesperson Hong Lei:
"We welcome and pay great attention to Iran's decree banning nuclear weapon. Iran is committed to the Non- Proliferation Treaty. Iran's Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that a religious decree issued by the country's supreme leader, was binding 4 for the Islamic republic.
Khamenei, who has the final say on all state matters in Iran, said last year that Tehran was not seeking atomic arms.
He called possessing such weapons a "sin, harmful and dangerous."
Iran also said the edict should end the debate over whether Tehran is pursuing atomic arms.
The International Atomic Energy Agency said they would continue the talks with Tehran over Iran's disputed nuclear issue on Thursday.
