German chancellor arrives in Beijing for official visit

BEIJING, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- German Chancellor 1 Angela Merkel arrived in Beijing on Thursday morning, kicking off a two-day official visit to China at the invitation of Chinese Premier 2 Wen Jiabao.
Wen will hold talks with Merkel on Thursday morning. They will also co-chair the second round of Chinese-German intergovernmental consultations 3.
Merkel is scheduled to meet with Chinese President Hu Jintao, top legislator Wu Bangguo, Vice 4 President Xi Jinping and Vice Premier Li Keqiang Thursday afternoon.
Besides Beijing, Wen will accompany Merkel to visit Tianjin, a municipality some 120 km away from Beijing.
It is Merkel's sixth visit to China since she took office in 2005.
