A Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson has commented on the election in the Philippines, saying it hopes the new government can improve ties with China.
"China and Philippine ties have encountered severe difficulties in recent years. We indeed hope the new Philippine government can work together with China, and take practical actions to tackle divergences, to push the relationship between two countries back to a healthy track. We hope China and Philippine ties will become better in the future," said Lu Kang.
