Siberian tigers are ranked among the biggest living cats in the world. They live primarily in eastern Russia's birch forests, though some exist in China and the DPRK. 


 


After more than a 100 years of constant decline, the World Wildlife Fund for Nature has recently reported a rise in the number of wild tigers. Around 3,890 tigers now exist in the wild, up from an estimated 3,200 in 2010.


 


The WWF says this increase shows that the world's pledge to double the number of the animals by 2020 is working. The pledge came as part of the Global Tiger Recovery Plan, which was created by the governments of 13 countries home to tiger populations in 2010. 


 


Thailand's wildlife protection agency says it has intensified patrols and has seen a 50 percent increase in its tiger population. Growth was also reported in Southeast Asia, where the number of tigers spotted in the wild is now in the hundreds.
