上文中的co-generation power plant就是“废热发电厂”，co-generation，也叫combinedheat and power(CHM)，是“热电联产”的意思，指同时生产电、热能的工艺过程。这一废热发电厂能利用steel coil（钢圈）生产过程中排放出的waste heat and gas（废热和废气）来generate power（发电），可以save energy（节能）、improve air q
uality and overall environment（改善空气质量和整体环境），还能降低production costs and energy consumption（生产成本和能源消耗）。 废热发电厂的运作能降低钢铁厂的carbon footprint（碳足迹），从而降低空气中的carbon intensity（碳浓度），是一种carbon offset（碳补偿）行为。
