U.S. officials say they will take a "hard look" at proposal for Syria to surrender its chemical weapons to internaional control to avoid a military strike. But the administration expressed "serious skepticism" about Syrian President Assad's intentions. Syria has consistently refused to destroy its chemical weapons in the past.
A new AP poll indicates that most Americans oppose the military strike on Syria despite a weeks-long White House campaign for action. 61% of Americans surveyed say they want Congress to vote against authorizing 1 military strikes. Just 26% are in favor.
