THE HAGUE, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- After two match rounds FC Twente is the only team in the Dutch league with the maximum of six points, with defending champions Ajax two points behind the leaders.
Ajax crushed NEC 6-1 in Nijmegen on Sunday. Jody Lukoki opened the scoring and Christian 1 Eriksen, new Swedish signing Tobias Sana (twice), Theo Janssen and Siem de Jong adding the other five goals. Bram Nuytinck produced the consolation 2 goal of NEC.
"I did not expect such a big difference," said Ajax coach Frank de Boer afterwards. "I think we almost optimally 3 benefited from the weaknesses of the opponent on the wings."
Ajax had drawn 4 2-2 against AZ Alkmaar in the first match round. The latter team also won its second match on Sunday, 3-1 against Heracles Almelo. Striker Jozy Altidore scored twice for a well combining home team, while Maarten Martens netted once. Samuel Armenteros was responsible for the only Heracles goal.
On Saturday Leroy Fer earned FC Twente a 1-0 win at NAC Breda. He scored in the 51st minute. "In the final phase, NAC really tested us, but we survived thanks to our mentality," said Twente coach Steve McClaren.
Also on Saturday Feyenoord drew 1-1 against sc Heerenveen, while PSV had no difficulties with Roda JC Kerkrade (5-0).
Twente leads the standings with six points, with Ajax, AZ, RKC Waalwijk, Vitesse and Feyenoord two points behind.
