Electric carmaker Tesla says a vehicle involved in afatal crash in California was in Autopilot mode, raisingfurther questions about the safety of self-drivingtechnology. One of the company's Model X carscrashed into a roadside barrier and caught fire on 23March. Tesla's Autopilot system does some of thethings a fully autonomous machine can do. It canbrake, accelerate and steer by itself under certainconditions, but it is classified as a driver assistancesystem and as such the driver is meant to have theirhands on the wheel at all times.
