Overuse of food additives 1 and microbial contamination were the primary food safety problems facing China last year, according to the top food authority.
国家食品药品监督管理总局表示，去年我国面临的首要食品安全问题是超量使用食品添加剂和微生物污染。
The two together accounted for more than 64% of all food safety problems found in random 2 inspections 4 by the China Food and Drug Administration, Yan Jiangying, spokeswoman for the administration, said last Monday.
食药监总局发言人颜江瑛上周一称，在总局抽检发现的全部食品安全问题中，超量使用食品添加剂和微生物污染占比超过64%。
"96.8% of the food products inspected last year were up to standard, consistent with the previous year," Yan said.

About 257,000 samples of food products were tested nationwide by the administration last year.
2016年食药监总局在全国范围内抽检了约25.7万批次食品样品。
For infant milk powder, 0.9 percent failed to meet the national standards. Dairy products, in general, recorded satisfactory results, with 99.5 percent up to standards.
