   雅思范文—新建筑是否应延续传统风格

        题目:

Government should protect culture. Therefore, some people believe that new building should be built in traditional style. Do you agree or disagree?
  范文:
The culture of a country changes in the course of social development. This is what is happening in developing nations such as China. Government has the obligation to preserve the culture of a country in a proper way.
In the real-estate business, for example, developers build houses, apartments , and offices to meet the demands of consumers differing in taste and spending power. Some buildings are built in traditional style as a selling point to differentiate 1 from competing products. In some cases, a municipal government tries to give its city a unique aroma 2 by constructing buildings in old style.
However, such newly built “old” buildings appear strikingly different from the originals centuries old. On the campus of Peking University, we can easily tell the differences between the old and the new. Even we admire the university’s efforts, this is not a work beautifully done. More examples would be found in many architects that are ridiculed 3 by both consumers and critics.
The real issue is: could culture be replicated 4? If yes, then to what extent do buildings represent a culture? In China, the more commonly known architect styles are found in temples or palaces. Though the government tries to recreate such places, people often label them as fake.
In spite of the disadvantages in government’s efforts in cultural preservation 5 , we have to recognize that such endeavor reminds people of their unique identity and legacy 6 . And it balances the trend that tries to make everything western just to keep up with the trend.
To sum up, it is very hard or sometimes impossible for the government to create truly good work in traditional style to preserve a culture. Nonetheless , such efforts are worthy 7 because of the positive influences they have on people in a country with rich history and culture like China.
