Hewitt to skip US Open

WASHINGTON, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Australian tennis player Lleyton Hewitt withdrew 1 from the US Open on Tuesday due to a foot injury.
The 30-year-old, winner of the US Open in 2001, was bothered by the foot problem the whole summer.
Hewitt underwent 2 surgery 3 on his foot in the spring and has never returned to court pain free. He has not reached the second week of a major since Wimbledon Open in 2009.
The Aussie was knocked out in the first round at the ATP Winston-Salem event Monday and said he would need "a lot of practise and a lot of treatment" before the start of the season's final major on Monday.
