BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Germany's Tony Martin from team Omega Pharma-QuickStep retained his title of Tour of Beijing as the fifth and final stage concluded here on Saturday.
Steve Cummings from team BMC Racing 1, claimed victory on day five of cycling's last tour of the season by outclassing Ryder Hesjedal (Garmin-Sharp) in the final sprint 2, clocking a time of four hours five minutes and eight seconds.
Team sky rider Edvald Boasson Hagen of Norway finished third in the stage, a 182.5-kilometer course from Changping stadium to Ping Gu century's plaza 3.
Martin followed the peloton to finish the fifth stage with 18 seconds behind and completed the five-day race in 17 hours 16 minutes and 56 seconds, 40 seconds ahead of Italian Francesco Gavazzi.
The two-time world time-trial champion ensured his red jersey 4 depending on his dominant 5 performance in the second stage, in which he won by a large margin 6 of 46 seconds.
Norwegian Boasson Hagen's finish helped him seal third place in the general classification, behind Gavazzi and champion Martin.
Martin gave the credit to the support from his teammate.
"Without them, I cannot claim the title for the second consecutive 7 year. I hope to come back here next year for a trio," said the winner.
