Seat这个词，我们再熟悉不过了，它的中文意思是“座位”。我们的生活中有各种各样的座位，比如汽车上的驾驶座、看台上的观摩座等等。这些座位在不同的语境里会表示不同的意思。
1. I am very fortunate to get the ringside seat to the event。
我很幸运能够近距离观摩这个活动。
(ringside seat：拳击比赛中靠近拳击台的观察席位，此处比喻为近距离观察。)
2. The consumer is in the driving seat due to the huge range of goods on the market。
由于市场上商品大量堆积，现在是消费者在掌控大局。
(driving seat：驾驶座，这里 表示“掌控大局”。)
3. You must rent this video. It keeps you on the edge of your seat right up to the end。
你一定得租这部电影看看，它会让你从头到尾都聚精会神。
(keep someone on the edge of the seat：让某人保持浓厚兴趣)
4. Aunt Mary drives us all crazy with her instructions; she's an incurable 1 backseat driver。
玛丽姑妈指来点去的，简直要把我们逼疯了。她瞎乱指挥的毛病真的无可救药了。
(backseat driver：后排座位上的司机，坐在后面喜欢告诉开车的人如何开车，意思就是指手划脚，乱提意见。)
5. She does not have to take a back seat to any singer of her time。
同任何一位同时代的歌唱家相比，她都毫不逊色。
(take a back seat：做在后排座位，喻指甘居人后，允许他人领先。)
