新的《婚姻法》司法解释公布后，引来各方争议。《中国日报》在一篇题为New home front opens up in divorce的文章中，详细分析了有关争议：
While some people complain about having to discuss divorce even before tying the knot, the Supreme 1 People's Court said the new rulings are aimed at heading off disputes over the property ownership in divorce cases。
尽管有人抱怨说(新的《婚姻法》司法解释出台后)在结婚前就得想着离婚的事，但最高人民法院表示，新的司法解释旨在阻止离婚案件中的房产纠纷。
题中的home front本意为战争中的“后方”，而在传统意义上，家庭都被视作一个人的“后院”，所以在这里指disputes on the home front(家庭纷争)。纷争的中心即property ownership(财产所有权)。
有的legal experts(法律专家)认为，这次的司法解释是要抑制那种为了财富而结婚的不良风气。最典型的例子当属material girl(拜金女)马诺，她在一档dating show(相亲节目)中公开宣称：I would rather cry in a BMW sedan than smile on the backseat of a bicycle(宁愿坐在宝马车里哭，也不愿坐在自行车上笑)。
但也有的人认为这次司法解释存在歧视，对于那些housewife(家庭主妇)，尤其是生活在农村的家庭妇女，离婚后她们可能一无所有。而令有的人失望的是，现在的婚姻似乎过于看重财富的因素，感情的因素被忽略了。就像报道里说的那样，两个人在tie the knot(结婚)之前就要考虑离婚的事，这多多少少会对两个人的感情产生一定的负面影响。 当然，也有人拍手称快，认为此举有助于推进gender 2 equality(性别平等)，打破centuries old traditions(千百年来的传统)，即“男人置业，女人持家”的传统。
