WASHINGTON, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Total foreign holdings of U.S. Treasury 1 securities continued to rise in March, indicating strong international demand for American government debt, the Department of Treasury said Thursday.
The rise has been on for eight months in a row.
Overall foreign holdings of U.S. Treasury securities reached 5. 9494 trillion U.S. dollars by the end of March, up from a revised 5.8901 trillion dollars by the end of February.
According to the Treasury International Capital report, China, the largest foreign holder 2 of U.S. Treasury securities, reduced its holdings by 800 million dollars, from 1.2729 trillion dollars in February to 1.2721 trillion dollars in March.
