　　Rabbits and carrots go together like bears and honey. Bears really do love honey, but most people know that they like to eat more than just that.

　　兔子吃胡萝卜就跟小熊爱吃蜂蜜是一个道理。小熊的确爱吃蜂蜜，而我们也知道它们爱吃的不只是蜂蜜。
　　Rabbits also enjoy a whole variety of food, but unfortunately some people think they can live exclusively off carrots. In reality, bunnies don’t eat root vegetables in the wild, so things like carrots should only be an occasional treat. The RSPCA found that 11% of all pet rabbits have tooth decay as a result of hitting the orange stuff too hard.
　　兔子同样也爱吃很多其他的食物。但不幸的是，人们觉得兔子只需要吃胡萝卜就可以了。事实上，兔子是不吃野生块根类蔬菜的，所以胡萝卜之类的只是偶尔才吃一回。英国防止虐待动物协会（RSPCA）指出，11%的宠物兔牙齿退化，就是啃太多的胡萝卜所致。

　　So if rabbits don’t eat carrots in the wild, where did the idea come from? Most blame Bugs 1 Bunny.
　　如果说兔子不吃野生胡萝卜，那么为什么我们会觉得胡萝卜是它们的真爱呢? 大多数人都觉得，要怪啊就怪兔八哥。
　　While many thought Bugs got the habit from his furry 2 peers, he actually adapted the carrot munching 3 from the King of Hollywood, Clark Gable. Creators Chuck Jones, Friz Freleng, and Bob Clampett have explained that Bugs’ trademark 4 love of carrots was inspired by a scene in the 1934 film, It Happened One Night. In it, Gable’s character leans against a fence and eats a carrot while explaining the rules of hitchhiking. In 1940, Bugs Bunny made his debut 5 in a cartoon called “A Wild Hare”.
　　虽然很多人认为兔八哥吃胡萝卜的习惯是跟它的同类学的，但其实啊它是跟好莱坞之王—克拉克·盖博学的。制作人查克·琼斯，福瑞兹·弗里伦，鲍伯·可兰培德解释道，兔八哥吃胡萝卜的标志性爱好，其灵感来源于1934年的一部影片《一夜风流》中的一个场景。该场景中，盖博所饰的角色一边倚着栅栏啃胡萝卜一边解释搭便车的规则。1940年，兔八哥在动画电影“一只小野兔（A Wild Hare）”中首次登上荧屏。
　　Today, most children have never heard of Clark Gable and attribute the carrot eating to normal rabbit behavior. If you have a pet rabbit, read up on the proper foods to feed it—carrots are like candy for rabbits, so they should be given in moderation!
