MEXICO CITY, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto said Monday that his government has taken important decisions, but further reforms are still needed to promote the country's economic growth.
In his first state-of-the-nation address at the presidential residence(住所), Nieto reiterated 1 that it was a great opportunity to undertake the transformation 2（转型） during the first nine months of his administration.
Progress has been made regarding competition, education and telecommunications, he said, noting that reform plans on energy and finance will be presented in the coming days.
"The great transformation is possible and running. Important decisions have been taken with specific reforms to improve education, to combat monopolies and anti-competitive practices to open telecommunications and that all young people have access to the Internet," he said.
The president noted 3 that Mexico needs quality education, wealth and opportunities, which should not be the privilege of a few.
He said he knew that it is difficult to achieve the transformation because there is inertia 4 and resistance to overcome.
"As president, I will respect the rights of all, but also determined 5 to use all the instruments of the democratic state to promote the transformation as requested by the majority."
On energy reform, Nieto said having enough energy would allow more businesses to locate in Mexico and create employment. "Mexico could become an energy power for the benefit of all Mexicans," he said.
Meanwhile, the Mexican president said that the tax reform will strengthen the financial capacity of Mexico, enabling the government to invest in infrastructure 6, expand and improve education and establish universal social security.
"This reform will strengthen stability and economic growth, to simplify the tax system will increase the competitiveness（竞争力） of the productive sector 7, especially micro, small and medium enterprises," he said.
