Chinese diplomats 1 continue to express outrage 2 over Japanese Prime minister Shinzo Abe’s visit to the Yasukuni war shrine 3 last month. Shi Mingde, Chinese ambassador to Germany is the latest to condemn 4 the visit.

In an interview with a German newspaper, he said the dispute between China and Japan arises from their attitude towards history. China will not compromise on matters of principle. He said Abe’s visit to Yasukuni is like a German chancellor 5 laying a wreath at Hitler’s bunker, rather than visiting a memorial to the murdered Jews of Europe. This would be unthinkable in Germany. He called on Japan to learn from Germany, and face up to history. Only by doing that, can Japan achieve reconciliation 6 and restore relations with its Asian neighbours.
