SARAJEVO, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) will launch a huge campaign of planting tree on Thursday in a bid to highlight importance of forest eco-systems.
The campaign, named "Let's do it - A Million Trees in One Day", will see tree-planting in over 80 municipalities inside the country. Some 20,000 volunteers will participate, with an aim to plant one million trees.
Meanwhile, forestry 1 companies will coordinate 2 the campaign, including monitoring the planted trees afterwards.
The main purpose is to raise public awareness 3 over environmental protection and importance of forest eco-systems.
Forests and forest land covers about 53 percent of BiH land, with 81 percent of them owned by the state and 19 percent privately-owned.
There were significant destructions of forests, mostly around urban areas, during the war in 1990s.
