   DHAKA, April 24 (Xinhua) -- At least 50 people were killed and several hundreds injured after an eight-storey building on the outskirts 1 of the capital Dhaka collapsed 2 on Wednesday morning.


  "At least 50 bodies have so far been recovered," Israfil Alam, chairman of the Parliamentary Standing 3 Committee on the Ministry 4 of Labor 5 and Employment, told Xinhua on the spot.
  Niilufar Yasmin, a fire service official, said that the building which houses a ready-made garment factory, a bank's branch and hundreds of shops, collapsed at about 9:00 a.m. local time.
  With many people believed to be trapped inside, rescuers fear the death toll 6 may rise significantly.
  Army personnel were called in to assist the rescue operation.
  Local residents also clawed through piles of rubble 7 to search for survivors 8, alongside earthmovers and excavators.
