Chile striker Vargas joins Brazil's Gremio

RIO DE JANEIRO, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian top-flight club Gremio has confirmed the signing of Chile international striker Eduardo Vargas on a one-year loan deal from Italian Serie A outfit 1 Napoli.
Gremio's executive director Rui Costa confirmed the deal on Wednesday, saying an official announcement would be made within days.
"We have made a great signing. We have an agreement with Napoli and now we are preparing the documents needed to finalize 2 the contract," Costa told Radio Bandeirantes.
Vargas is expected to travel to the southern Brazilian city of Porto Alegre for a routine medical exam next week.
He is unlikely to be available until after Gremio's 2013 Copa Libertadores debut 3 against Ecuador's Liga Deportiva Universitaria in Quito on January 23.
Vargas, 23, has won 15 caps for Chile since making his international debut in 2009.
