A race against time. Rescuers are working around the clock to clear roads, after a mudslide on Monday blocked the only link to Huna Village in Yunnan province. The mudslide crushed and damaged dozens of houses and caused power outages.

"Now we are using excavators to change the route of the road. This section is expected to be opened on Wednesday," Yang Jisheng, division chief of Mangshi Municipal Road Department, said.

But the rescue work hasn’t been easy...Due to a lack of equipment, aid workers have only shovels 1 and their bare hands to dig through the debris 2. As Yunnan enters its annual flood season, the mountainous province faces additional mudslides and other disasters in the weeks to come.

In Hainan province, Rammasun almost destroyed all traffic lights in Haikou. The city’s power authorities have mobilized some 2,000 workers to repair them. The provincial 3 government has also appropriated 100 million yuan for disaster relief.

Xuwen county in Guangdong province also bore the brunt of the storm, which destroyed agricultural crops and countless 4 homes. Rescue and relief operations started Monday, as water and power supplies slowly got back online.

In the city of Fangchenggang in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous 5 Region, the typhoon wreaked 6 havoc 7 on local infrastructure 8. The city’s main roads have been submerged, with fallen trees and billboards 9 seen lying everywhere.
