A professor at Sichuan University has introduced a facial recognition system to monitor students in his class.
四川大学一名教授近日研发出了一套脸部识别系统，用于监控学生的上课状态。
The system, invented by Professor Wei Xiaoyong of the university's computer science department, has been deemed a "magic device" by Wei's students.
这套系统是由计算机科学学院的魏骁勇教授研发的，被魏教授的学生成为“魔法机器”。
Among other things, it is able to analyze 1 the effect of Wei's teaching.
除此之外，这套系统还能够分析魏教授的教学效果。
In Wei's lab, a reporter got to examine the system at work, observing a video in which every student's face was marked with a yellow box.
在魏教授的实验室里，有一个记录员必须检查系统的运作，观察每一个学生的脸都被黄色的方框标出来的视频。
Each box was labeled as "happy" or "neutral," classifying the students' overall feelings.
每个方框都标示着“开心”或者“一般”，将学生的心情进行分类。

Based on facial expressions, Wei is able to know when students are the most active, and when they need more interaction to stay engaged.
基于面部表情，魏骁勇能够从中知道学生什么时候最活跃，什么时候需要多一点互动来集中注意力。
Long-term monitoring of 324 students revealed that academic performance may be proportional to the level of students' activity in class.
对324名学生的长期监控调查表明，学生的学业成绩可能是与学生上课的参与度呈正相关的。
"The facial expressions tell me which teaching methods are most easily understood and accepted," Wei confirmed.
魏教授证实：“这些面部表情告诉我什么样的教学方式才是最易于理解，最为学生接受的。”
The system has also been used to study relationships between students.
这套系统也被用来研究学生之间的人际关系。
By recording 2 the students' interactions with others, the system tells Wei whether an individual pupil is an introvert 3 or an extrovert 4.
通过记录学生彼此间的互动，系统能告诉魏教授某个学生是性格内向还是外向。
"In the future, expressions will be divided into more categories, which will allow us to do more analysis," Wei said.
魏教授说：“以后，面部表情将会被进行更多分类，会让我们有机会进行更多分析。”
In addition to maximizing the efficacy of teaching, the system can be employed in many other fields.
除了将教学效果最大化，这套系统也可以被投用到许多别的领域。
"For example, a camera installed in front of an advertisement can analyze the effect of the advertisement by capturing the expressions of the public," Wei offered.
魏教授补充道：“比如说，在广告牌前安装摄像头可以通过抓取大众的面部表情来分析该广告的效用。”
