　　Citing defamation 1, 60-year-old Pan Jinlian from southern China's Guangdong province is suing the director of I Am Not Madame Bovary, a film known in Chinese as "I Am Not Pan Jinlian."

　　最近，来自中国南部广东省的一名60岁、名叫潘金莲的妇女，以侵犯自己名誉权为由，将电影《我不是潘金莲》的导演告上了法庭。
　　In the 2016 satirical movie directed by renowned 2 filmmaker Feng Xiaogang and starring megastar Fan Bingbing, protagonist 3 Li Xuelian pits herself against the country's legal system to clear her name after she is wrongfully accused of infidelity and divorced by her husband.
　　著名导演冯小刚执导的这部讽刺意义十足的电影于2016年上映，该电影由范冰冰领衔出演，讲述了其饰演的李雪莲在被丈夫污蔑且惨遭抛弃之后，为证明自身清白努力不懈到处打官司上访的故事。
　　The film's title is a reference to her argument that she is no "Pan Jinlian," a character from ancient Chinese literature who has become synonymous with sexual debauchery.
　　电影名称恰好与女主角的心声完美呼应，即--“我不是潘金莲”。潘金莲是中国古代文学作品中的一位虚构人物，现在常与水性杨花相关联。

　　With the authors of those works — Jin Ping Mei and Water Margin 4 — long gone, Pan, the plaintiff in the recent legal case and a resident of the city of Zengcheng, has turned her attention to the people and production companies behind last year's highly successful movie, including director Feng, producer Huayi Brothers Pictures, and Liu Zhenyun, author of the 2012 novel on which the film is based.
　　由于文学作品《金瓶梅》和《水浒传》的作者早已逝世，此次案件原告方--广东增城市居民潘金莲转而将注意力放在去年这部大获成功电影的相关人员和制作公司之上，其中包括华谊兄弟公司制片人冯小刚以及该电影基于的2012年出版原著小说的作者刘震云。
　　A statement appearing to have been issued by Pan claimed that the film had caused her significant emotional distress 5 and that trailers and other forms of promotion 6 had only compounded the defamation against her.

　　"Not only did the plaintiff become severely 7 depressed 8 and vexed," her statement, cited by news portal Sohu, read, "but the esteem 9 of her relatives and other people with the Pan surname has also decreased drastically in the eyes of society."
　　据搜狐网站报道，其声明还提到：“该电影不仅令当事人受到严重伤害与困扰，同时也造成其家人和其他潘氏族人的社会评价急剧降低。”
　　In an interview with the Chengdu Economic Daily, Pan's younger brother said that his sister's suffering caused by her fictional 10 namesake has been going on for years, with her two children and husband also bearing the brunt. But with the release of I Am Not Madame Bovary, circumstances have worsened, said her brother, "She can't sleep for much of the night, and her health is deteriorating," he said, adding that elderly neighbors in her housing estate now openly mock her.
　　在接受《成都商报》采访时，潘金莲的弟弟表示，几十年来，自己的姐姐一直都因这个名字而备受困扰，就连她的丈夫和两个孩子也惨遭连累。随着《我不是潘金莲》的上映，情况可谓是愈加糟糕。“她半夜常常睡不着觉，身体也是越来越差，”潘金莲的弟弟说道，并提到就连一个村里的老邻居也会公开取笑她。
　　A verdict for the recent legal challenge is expected on April 19.
　　法庭将于4月19日对此案件进行正式宣判。
