Researchers from the University of Nevada in the US may have found the perfect way to make a man attractive –ensure he has a pooch in tow.

They completed a study that looked at the role of pets in dating. A sample of 1,210 online daters, 61 per cent of whom were female, responded to a survey about what they look for in a prospective 1 partner.

The findings, which were published in a scientific journal called Anthrozoos, demonstrated that women were more than twice as likely as men to say that they were attracted to someone because they owned a pet.

Female participants also said that they were more than twice as likely to judge their potential partner based on how they interacted with their pet.

Despite this being news to some, others have argued that this has been public knowledge for a while. One Instagram account, that showcases "dudes with dogs [that] will make you drool”, called 'Hot Dudes With Dogs' has nearly 280,000 followers 3.
