A Palestinian boy has been shot and killed in the Gaza Strip as Israeli troops and Palestinians militants 1 exchange fire. It's the latest 1)fatality since a U.S.-brokered cease-fire went into effect more than three weeks ago.
Witnesses say Khalil Mughrabi was shot and killed by Israeli soldiers, and that at least one other child was wounded. Israel did not confirm the killing 2, but admits troops fired back at militants who were throwing 2)grenades and firing gunshots at their post.
The 3)volatile area, near the border with Egypt in the southern Gaza Strip, saw violent 4)clashes for much of the day Saturday. There were also scattered 3 incidents in the West Bank, including a roadside bomb that injured two soldiers.
The violence continued as Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon returned from a two day visit to France and Germany where he sought European backing for his policies. He did not win the agreement he sought, but 5)diplomatic sources say his explanations make it less likely that Europeans will 6)condemn Israel for responding to Palestinian violence.
