英闻天下——445 PLA Navy Training Exercise in S China Sea
The Chinese navy are conducting training exercises with a fleet of four warships 1 in the South China Sea and the western Pacific Ocean.
The fleet along with four ship-borne helicopters and a hovercraft will conduct drills such as command post establishment, operational maneuvering 2 and high-sea convoy 3 missions.
Simulated air and submarine attacks will also be carried out.
Jiang Weilie, the commander of the South China Sea fleet, says this is a way of improving the Navy.
"The training exercises will be conducted according to requirements of actual combat, with the aim of improving the navy's defense 4 capabilities 5 based on the information system and enhancing its ability to safeguard our maritime 6 sovereignty."
The drill is part of the Chinese Navy's annual training plan, with 7 similar exercises conducted last year.
