The coffin 1 with the remains 2 of late Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez has been transported to a military museum along main streets of the capital Caracas.
His body will be displayed indefinitely at the museum.
Tens of thousands of Venezuelans gathered along the route to watch Chavez's body crossing the city.
Helen Blandin is a supporter of Chavez.
"This is not a 'goodbye'. We have our hearts broken, yes we have to recognize that, we are very sad, but this very sadness will make us stronger, because your legacy 3 will live on, my president."
Earlier on Friday, Chavez's relatives stood in honor guard around the coffin before it was transported to the military museum.
His daughter Maria Chavez Colmenare pledged his father's legacy would be eternal among the public.
"We will take care of your people and will defend your legacy like you taught us to do so, you will never leave because in our hands burns your flame, Hugo Chavez."
Officials declared Friday a holiday in three states, while the two main highways in Caracas were closed.
Chavez died of cancer on March 5 at the age of 58. His deputy Nicolas Maduro was sworn in as Venezuela's interim 4 president.
The country will hold the presidential election on April 14.
