Sudan and South Sudan have agreed on a new deal which will see oil production resuming after more than a year.
Under the new agreement, which was reached in Ethiopia, production will resume in the South from the 24th of March.
The South separated from the rest of Sudan in 2011. However, both still rely heavily on the export of oil which gets pumped from the South across Sudanese pipelines 1.
Production had been stalled though after bitter disputes over fee negotiations 2.
Earlier, the two sides also agreed to withdraw their troops from the demilitarized zone between the two countries.
Sudan's defense 3 minister Mohamed Hussein made the announcement on Monday.
"The withdraw starts now, and will last for one week. A supervision 4 mechanism 5 has been set up, and is already in motion."
He said the withdrawal 6 is the first step to carry out the border security agreement.
The agreement, which was signed on the 8th of March, includes a timetable for setting up a demilitarized buffer 7 zone along the border and deploying 8 monitoring forces there.
