So, thirty-one years ago today, I drove from Madison, Wisconsin, to Los Angeles, California. On the way, I passed Camp Randall, where my college graduation ceremony was in progress. I thought about going to the ceremony, but it meant I would've arrived in Hollywood one day later, and at the time I just didn't see the point. I wanted to get there.

In the end, though, it's probably not enough to justify 1 a life's journey. Getting there, particularly in show business, is tough enough. You need a combination 2 of talent, ambition, luck and a willingness to tell actors how beautiful they look today.

In retrospect 3, getting there was the easy part. Finding 4 a "there" there is much harder. So today, before you get into your cars and race off to the rest of your lives, I want to give you some advice on how to get there. And I want to help make sure that when you get there, you find a "there" there.

前页演讲稿中提到的格特鲁格·斯坦因（Gertrude Stein）1874—1946年，美国著名的女作家，作品有《爱丽丝·托克斯拉的自传》（The Autobiograghy of Alice B. Toklas）及《温柔的纽扣》（Tender Button）
