PARIS, June 18 (Xinhua) -- The man who menaced to jump off from Paris' iconic La Tour Eiffel (the Eiffel Tower) was detained on Tuesday afternoon by the French police.
Police sources confirmed that the man, aged 1 around 30 years old and a self-claimed Polish, is "psychologically unstable 2." He threatened to commit suicide by jumping off La Tour Eiffel Tower, a famous tourist destination in the capital city of Paris while he was trying to climb from the second floor up to the third floor through the outside of the tower.
Visitors to the monument were immediately evacuated 3 at around 13:00 (1100GMT) and the man was finally talked down and detained by police.
Police lifted the safety alarm after placing the area under security control for two hours.
The reasons for the man's suicide bid are not yet clear, but media reports said the man wanted to be filmed by helicopter.
La Tour Eiffel hosted 7 million visitors in 2011 and is one of the most visited monuments in the world.
