事实胜于雄辩

俗语有云：是骡子是马，拉出来溜溜。这句话告戒我们，就算有人口若悬河，跟你吹得天花乱坠，我们还是要擦亮双眼，看看他有没有真本事。英语中也有个类似的俗语，叫“the proof of thepudding is in the eating”。
这句话源自17世纪，而且在英国出现的频率比美国大。这也许是因为英国人比较喜欢吃布丁的缘故。它的字面意思是“布丁味道怎么样，吃了才知道”，引申一下就是“事实胜于雄辩”、“眼见为实”。
后来，也许是人们变懒了，这句话又演变出了更简短的说法，如“the proof is in the pudding”和“proof of the pudding”。
看下面例句：
I've read the proposal and it looks promising 1, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating. （我看了提议书，觉得不错，但是要实践了才知道到底怎么样。）
