一个意大利环保组织周一警告说，大众旅游正在慢慢侵蚀威尼斯泻湖，房地产业的发展和交通网络的不完善也对威尼斯泻湖形成了威胁。
上文报道中的mass tourism就是“大众旅游”，指的是现代旅游活动开始形成的以有组织的团体包价旅游为代表的大众型旅游模式，并且形成广大民众中占支配地位的旅游形式。常见的大众旅游形式是package tour/group tour/organized tour（跟团旅游）。
近日大陆开放了travel across the Taiwan Straits as individual tourists（赴台个人游），赴台个人游的游客被称为individual tourist/ free walker（自由行游客）。
