And it is time for StoryCorps on this Friday morning. This oral history project lets you interview someone you love and ask them questions you've always wanted to ask.
My name is Hasiyna Price I'm 15 and I'm here with my cousin Danette Banks.
My name is Danette Angela Banks, I'm 16, and I'm here with my cousin Hasiyna.
These two are friends, neighbors, and cousins. They've been close ever since they can remember. Here Hasiyna talks about having scoliosis and what it's like to feel different at school.
I have like a bump 1 on my back and my spine 2 is twisted and my arms is a little bit too long for my aaaabody; like, one is longer than the other. But, I don't care what anybody says, because now, I don't care but usually they go around saying humpty-dumpty camel. (Yeah), and stuff 3 like that. I know that used to upset you because you would start crying and go in the house.
But I think (I don't) you're very pretty.
I don't care. . thank you.
Why do you go in the house? Because all you're doing is showing them what's getting to you, and they're going to keep doing it constantly because they know it's getting to you.
They don't do it now because I don't let people talk about me no more. I just say, you, you call me hunchback, but I'm the flyest hunchback you know. If you bother me, I'm gonna fight you no matter if I know you or not. Is there anything about me that you wanted to know when never asked me?
Yes, why don't you talk to the boys that want to talk to you? Why don't you like them.
I don't want them to find out about my back and then break up (So? ) with me 'cause of my back. .
Your back is just something you were born with. That don't mean there's anything wrong with you. How would you like to be remembered?
As the sweetest girl, if you don't get on my bad side.
Okay. You little girl.
