I'm Nicole Lapin at the CNN center in Atlanta, here is look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.

Iran's top legislative 1 body has invited opposition 2 leader Mir-Hossein Mousavi and two other candidates to a meeting. The Guardian 3 Council now says it's carefully examining hundreds of complaints submitted after the June 12th vote. Meanwhile, Mousavi says that he is greeting his supporters at a city square today as the defiance 4 though against the state grow so do the restrictions 5. Iran is limiting CNN to just one report a day.

Same-sex partners of federal employees now have new benefits today. President Obama signed it order yesterday that allows federal employees to use sick leave to care for partners or non-biological children. Also partners of federal employees can be added to long-term care programs, President Obama says it's a historic step but he also promises more actions.

Embattled Senator John Ensign has resigned his position with the GOP leadership. The position was fourth in the Republican leadership ranks. The announcement comes after Ensign admitted having an extramarital affair with a campaign staffer.

Well you won't get to see video of Casey Anthony's reaction after all when she was told that her daughter's remains 6 were found. She is of course the Florida mom accused of killing 7 her daughter Caylee. A judge decided 8 to seal the jail video. He says if the tape got out, it could influence potential jurors.

In Florida animal control officers were able to save three kittens that were crying out for help. Two days after they were trapped inside that metal piping in nearly 100 degree heat. Rescuers were trying to flush them out with water first but eventually they had to dismantle 9 the piping, and they came out shivering these low munchkins but otherwise ok.

I had to constantly cool off the pipe they were in with some water because it was so hot in there. You could here them crying, and it's always a good feeling to get something out of danger, especially when they're in that much need of help.

And good news, somebody has already agreed to adopt them.

Those are the headlines at this hour, for more on those stories and other news of the day, CNN is always your source online on TV or your cell phone
