TORONTO, March 19 (Xinhua) -- Toronto's fashion scene will be buzzing for the next few days as 27 designers showcase their upcoming collections.
The first day of the World MasterCard Fashion Week Fall 2013 has seen a fashion blast from the past, indicating that retro-inspired looks will probably be a big trend for the fall-winter season.
Four designers unveiled their fall-winter collections on Monday, and they all seem to be a bit inspired by fashion styles from the past. From the music, visuals, backdrops to designs, designers set their stage with touches dating back to the 1960s.
Amanda Brugel, an actress and fashion lover, said Toronto-based Chloe Comme Parris' grungy, eclectic vibe, with their layering and oversized biker jackets all made her a bit nostalgic.
"It was really like a throwback to retro years, and I can actually picture what I was doing at those times, so it was sort of like a little voyage back into the past," she said.
Even though they are drawing from styles she has seen before, Brugel said the designers' fresh take on each look makes it much more exciting.
"The accessories and the styling was enough so that it was a blend of both worlds," she said.
Miz by Izzy Camilleri, a Toronto-based designer, and Kimberley Newport-Mimran's Pink Tartan brought the audience right back to the 1950s and 1960s, using capes 1 and fur to portray 2 a chic 3, feminine and ladylike woman.
While it is mostly about the clothes, for some, it is all about the little details.
Leah Semple, who was at Pink Tartan's show, said she could not get her eyes off the Stepford Wife-like wigs 4 the models were donning. "I loved the wigs, how fun were the wigs."
Buyers, models, and pretty much everyone in the fashion scene, were all on the edge of their seats waiting to see what is in and what is not.
Shane Coleman, Pink Tartan's flagship store manager, said it is what they live for.
"Seeing all the different shows and seeing what everybody's take on what are going to be those classic trends are probably going to be the most exciting thing," he said. "Because everyone has kind of a different opinion on it."
