Professor Stephen Hawking 1 has warned that a hard Brexit would be hugely damaging to the UK.

Prof Hawking added: "Instead, we should retain as many links as possible with Europe and the rest of the world, particularly China."

The scientist, 75, also criticised Donald Trump 3 and his supporters in the interview.

He said Mr Trump's election as US President represents a more authoritarian 4 approach.

Prof Hawking said: "He was elected by people who felt disenfranchised by the governing elite 5 in a revolt against globalisation. His priority will be to satisfy his electorate 6 who are neither liberal, nor that well-informed."
