在Taylor Swift出现之前，不少的青少年都会对乡村乐这种类型的音乐敬而远之，以为那不过就是中老年人怀念少时欢乐而无病呻吟的一种表达形式，尽管乡村乐其实更多还是在歌颂生活的美好、或者吟唱快乐的乡村小生活。从严格意义上来讲，Taylor Swift的音乐也并非是纯正的乡村音乐，用一个很长的定语来形容就是：包裹着乡村音乐外表的流行类摇滚。不过这不妨碍Taylor Swift深得青少年的喜爱，纵使有人说她像是“乡村版艾薇儿”。 Taylor Swift走红的意义不在于她才18岁就已经拥有了两张畅销专辑，也不在于她的创作才华，而是在于她通过演唱包裹着乡村音乐外表的流行类摇滚而拉近了判断力相对单纯的青少年和乡村音乐之间的距离。
Taylor Swift的歌词没特别之处，因为你不可能指望一个刚刚成年的女孩子写出多么发人深省的词句，这是不现实的；Taylor Swift之所以能从一种青少年歌手中脱颖而出，除了因为她满身散发出的青春活力，更多的还是因为她的音乐中透露出了的那股子硬朗气质。
