The Special Olympics are just around the corner. As Shanghai gets ready for the event, visitors can stroll 1 down to a park in the downtown Hongkou district, where they will meet a talented harmonica player who also happens to be mentally impaired 2.
Wu Mengze often comes to this park to play the harmonica. What's more, he does so as an accompaniment to a choir 3. Over the past two years, his improving skills have attracted quite a fanbase. And his musical talents don't go unnoticed by other members of the choir.
choir member, said, "We take care of each other. We don't discriminate 4 toward him. His harmonica skills are even better than mine."
Although Wu can play over 100 harmonica pieces, he cannot read musical scores. Instead, he's spent the past two years memorizing them. Wu says that practicing harmonica has opened up his mind. And he has a dream to prove it.
Wu Mengze, harmonica player & choir member, said, "I wish to stage a singing and harmonica playing concert."
In addition to this long-term wish, he expects to watch several matches during the upcoming Special Olympics in Shanghai.
