Several days after long lines of people waited for hours in Japan to try to get one of the few Sony PlayStation 3 game machines being released to each store, the same thing happened in the United States. After being sold for 500 to 600 dollars around the US, the machines were available on internet auction 1 site eBay for an average of about $2,700. Because of the high production costs of the PS3, Sony will lose money on each one sold. They hope to make it back selling games for the machine. The release several days later of Nintendo's $250 Wii game machine, along with an increasing number of games available for Microsoft's Xbox 360, will provide stiff 2 competition for the PS3.
