ACT 2 You remember everything!
(Carmen十分期待这个和父亲一起度过的暑假,父母在多年前已经离婚,所以父亲回家看她她的时间少之又少。但是,现在父亲好像整个人都变了......)
Carmen: Here it is. I ask the school to postpone 1 [post·pone](v. 推迟)sending this. Because, Dad, I wanted to surprise you! [把自己的成绩单给父亲看,非常自豪]Ta-da, straight [streɪt] A’s(成绩全A)!
Dad: That’s fantastic [fan'tas·tic] (好极了).
Carmen: Dad, I brought my tennis gear [gɪr] (n. 工具) and I have been practicing like crazy! [兴奋地继续想象和父亲一起过暑假会有多快乐]So, I want you to serve [sə:v] (v. 发球) to me up to your absolute [æb·so·lute] hardest (用你最猛烈的方式), OK?
Dad: I’ll do that.
Carmen: [期待无比] You know, I was calculating ['cal·cu·lat·ing] (v.计算) it on the train. I haven’t spent more than four straight days with you since I was ten. I mean, I love it when you come for Christmas, but...[突然发现车子开的方向不对]wait, where are we?
Dad: I have a surprise for you. I moved out of Charleston ['tʃɑ:lstən] (查尔斯顿,西弗吉尼亚州首府城市).
Carmen: And into a development(n. 新开发区)? Dad, you hate developments!
Dad: [惊讶]When did I say that?
Carmen: At an exhibit [ex·hib·it] (n. 展览) at the Smithsonian(即Smithsonian Institution,史密斯森尼博物馆,美国最大的博物馆系统). You said, “There’s city and there’s country, and everything else is a wasteland ['weistlænd](n. 荒地).” I was nine years old and you came to DC (District of Columbia,哥伦比亚地区的简称) for one day with a plastic [plas·tic] (n. 塑料) company.
Dad: [对女儿的超强记忆力感到不可思议]You remember everything!
Carmen: I don’t remember you telling me you moved.
